Chocolat
If you haven’t seen the movie Chocolat, may I recommend it to you. It is the story of the struggle that takes place between a free-spirited lady who opens a chocolate shop in a small village in France at the beginning of the season of lent, much to the chagrin of the local religious folk who hold so fast to their tradition.
The heart of love and caring that she shows to others is contrasted to the coldness of those driven by tradition and the need to manipulate for selfish purposes due to their own insecurity.
There is a point though, when the young priest sees through the hypocrisy and delivers a challange to the people on the importance of realizing that it is not in what we deny ourselves that matters in our life and it is not in whom we exclude but it is in whom we include and give love.
Good movie.

I totally agree! This movie is on one of my favorite lists. I recommend this movie for anyone who is grapling with how religion stiffles our lives. But when you live in the freedom of true Love, you find that your life speaks louder than words. Great movie and an example how we can engage our culture… through love and relationship rather than religion and manipulation.
Peace.
Rob, I noticed that in your earlier comments you and George reveal and old friendship. Welcome to BoldGrace. I look forward to getting to know you better.
My wife Bev and I loved this movie and the simple message of how love and grace often flow from unexpected places and reveals the Presence of God in those that the world of religion considers foolish. Whether through movies such as this or the lyrics of songs written by Pete Townsend, John Lennon or Billy Joel, we often find God revealing Himself through surprising and unexpected vessels, as far as the religious are concerned.
I am reminded of how Jesus foretold that those considered ungodly would enter His Fathers kingdom before the self righteous.
Grace & peace

Rob, I miss seeing you around. I’ll have to swing by your place more often too!
Steve, I’ve always wanted to see that movie. Now I have a good reason to.
