A Very Personal God!

Last night my grandson Cliffy who is 3 1/2 years old was rushed to Riley Hospital in Indianapolis with a ruptured appendix.  My wife followed over my son and his wife and I stayed behind watching one of their daughters.  I have to say it was one of the toughest nights of our lives.  Thankfully everything turned out OK and he should have a full recovery and return back home in about 5 days.

My point in this post is that when we face difficult circumstances God becomes very personal to us.  All of my great theology and wisdom was replaced with begging and pleading.  Even though I know in my heart that God loves my little Cliffy more then I can even understand, I still found myself trying to bargan with him.  At one point in the evening I even asked God to take me, but please let Cliffy be OK.  I know that was silly, and that God doesn’t work that way, but it’s amazing what we are reduced to in the tough moments of life.

I guess what I’m most grateful for is that God’s love for us is always perfect even when our prayers to him are full of ignorance and a lack of trust.  One thing for sure is…….I am human and God doesn’t rely on my ability to get it all right before he shows me his love.

I’m glad and thankful that Cliffy is OK, and I’m also glad God decided not to take me up on my offer (ha ha).   Yes, God is beyond all we can ask or imagine and his love is perfect even when we can’t see it that way.

Hey Cliff, don’t feel bad, we all get a little shaky when it comes to something threatning our wife, kids and grandkids. I too have done some heavy bargaining in those times.

Glad to hear the little guy is going to be ok and I’m glad too that God didn’t take you up on your offer. Heck, I havn’t even gotton to give you a hug yet.

Glad things turned out ok. Life can be scary at times. Maybe it is because without the scariness, we wouldn’t know when things are good. We’d have nothing to compare to, and even the best of times would just seem normal. Who knows?

Wow, Cliff. I’m so glad things turned out OK. I can’t even imagine what you must have been going through. I’m sure any of us would have been willing to make that deal even though we all know G-d doesn’t work that way.

    Peace,
    Brian

Thanks for all your encouragement. Your thoughts and prayers are parts of the treasure that we all have in this earthen vessel and when we use them for each other it reminds us of just how much we are ONE.

I just got an update on Cliffy this morning and he had a turn for the worse during the night. They had to put a tube down his throat because his intestins were not processing the liguids he drank. Please continue to keep him and his parents in your prayers.

    Cliff,

Your gandson and all of you are safely in God’s hands, held there through all of the prayers He puts in our hearts. He loves your grandson even beyond the love that floods through you towards Him. May you be aware only of God’s presense and find all of your strength in Him and through you, may that strength envelope your beloved child. All of this, yours for the taking, no bargain required.:0) In Jesus Name, Amen.

I have a little grandson too and I don’t want to be without the light he brings to my life, you have all my empathy.

    Cliff,

Are prayers are with Cliffy and the whole family. I don’t think bargaining is all that bad. After all didn’t God do the same for us? He offered up His life for ours. No need to worry, He knows your heart and your love for your Grandson, Cliffy. Be strong — and be broken when the need arises. He’s more than able to comfort and to heal.

    Love & prayers,
    Bonnie

UPDATE ON CLIFFY: He still has a tube down his throat and his stomach is swollen. He is very uncomfortable but the Doctors say this is normal and he is progressing like he should. His mother (Bridget) has not left his side. Both parents, Cliff & Bridget are very grateful for all the prayers and thoughts.

Cliffy is progressing as he should. He is still uncomfortable but last night he was up and walking the hall and we are all feeling very good about his recovery. Again, thanks to all for your prayers and thoughts.
