Love Keeps No Record of Wrongs!
If I were to narrow down what I believe to a few words I would use the Apostle Paul’s words found in his letter to the Corinthians. He said:
1 Cor 13:4-84 Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud.5 It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs.6 Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth.7 It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.8 Love never fails.
Now in the above scriptures there are six words I have highlighted in blue that have the most meaning to me. I have bet my life on these words because by the standard of many christians I am going straight to HELL if they are not true.
We all know the Apostle John’s most simple definition of God. He says: GOD IS LOVE, and by Paul’s definition of love we can know that LOVE DOES NOT KEEP A RECORD OF WRONGS. So, if God does not keep a record of wrongs and He is teaching us to do the same, how can anyone be left out of God’s perfect plan of redemption?
Does God, being defined by LOVE keep a record of our wrongs as the majority of christian organizations teach? If He does keep a record of wrongs then he can not be LOVE. And if He is LOVE then we are safe to assume none of us have a record. GOD IS NOT KEEPING SCORE. That’s why Paul could say with confidence that LOVE WILL NEVER FAIL.
This is also why PERFECT LOVE will cast out all fear, because fear has to do with punishment, and punishment is based on a RECORD of WRONGS. The only way our fear can be released is to know with certainty that God is NOT keeping a record on us.
Love is the most powerful energy that any of us can ever know and as we understand it more and more we begin to realize that in this life keeping a record of wrongs and being a person of love do not mix. So, for me in this time of Christmas spirit I gladly submit myself to this unconditional love that God created in my heart and the hearts of all my fellow travellers. I look foward to the coming year and all that LOVE will show me.
Let me finish with where Paul began before he described what LOVE is:
1 Cor 13:1-313 If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal.2 If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but have not love, I am nothing.3 If I give all I possess to the poor and surrender my body to the flames, but have not love, I gain nothing.
WITHOUT LOVE I AM NOTHING!
