We Are Home!!

We are home. Dad went straight to his bed and is sleeping peacefully.

I have to tell you all a great and wonderful story so get ready to laugh instead of crying!

SO…They wanted Dad to pee before he went home and if anyone knows my Father they know that he CANNOT pee in a public place. LOL so he and I are sitting together and the nurse leaves the room after telling him that he can’t go home until he pees. She leaves and he looks at me suddenly with wide eyes and a seriousness that freaked me out and he said, "Go to the bathroom and pee." SO…if you all know me then you know that I went to the bathroom and peed. LOL The nurse sees me come out and I said to Dad, "OK, I cleaned the toilet up for you." Dad gives me a smile and a wink and says to the nurse, "I will go try again." So, we wait and we wait and finally he comes out of the bathroom and tells the nurse that he peed a little. The nurse goes in to check and make sure he did the job. Dad once again looks at me and winks and smiles. The nurse walks out of the bathroom and heads straight out of the room. Suddenly the head nurse comes in and says, "Clifford, did you go pee?" Dad says, "Yep" (again looks at me and winks) Then she says, "Clifford, Did you use toilet paper?" Dad says, "yep". Then she says< "well, we need to see if your bladder is full and we will use this machine to tell us." Dad looks at me and I look at him and suddenly we have both got an OH SHIT look on our face. We knew we got caught. AND of course his bladder was full. Thankfully our nurse TeeTee who is an Angel just laughed at us and said how ornery he is.

We will laugh about this one and I am sure we have more stories to come! He is one thing for sure and that is absolutely hilarious!!!

Hello Cliff (and family)- I already miss seeing you 3-4 times a day at the hospital. Even though we don’t always have the chance to talk, I just always enjoy seeing you, it brings me joy because I know you are constantly in His Presence. When you have rested a little while the girls (Heidi and Holli) and I would like to come and visit. I have some fun things I’d like to share. Take care and rest and let me know when you are up for company. Anyone can call anytime 965-1040. Thank you for sharing your life with us. Valerie

    Hi Hazelbaker Family,
I am so glad that there can be laughter! I know that our God has a sense of humor and He was surely laughing with you. I shared your diagnosis with my bible study group this evening so there are 4 more prayer warriors praying for your peace and comfort right now. I am blessed to know your family and I love your dear, sweet Amalia more than words can say. She is a treasured friend to me and always will be.
    Love and prayers,

Mindy & Cliff – Great story! It’s nothing I wouldn’t have done for my own father either.

I have to tell you though, how much it reminded me of a similar story at work. Part of my job involves working with people who have been injured in accidents and/or terminated from jobs for various reasons. We work with doctors and/or lawyers frequently.

A few years ago, we had a case where a man had been fired from his factory for a “failed drug test.” We had to work on the defense. He was seeking lost wages, etc. 30 days after he was terminated, his defense team scheduled him for another drug test (done with a take-home kit for cost effectiveness). It was just a preliminary screening–nothing that we’d take to court. I got the results from the lawyer because the client was in the office. And, I had to go tell Joe….that….his drug test was negative for illegal drugs but positive for being pregnant. I’m fairly certain Joe didn’t take that drug test. I’ve never seen a man’s jaw hit the floor so fast.

As hard as it may get in the coming days, it’s important for you to all keep laughing…just like your story. That’s what made you the family that you are and never lose sight of that. Know that you’ve got a great support system–of people you have known for years and some you’ve never met cheering for you all.

That is so funny and exactly what I would expect of you Cliff! While growing up and now as an adult I have always looked forward to family get togethers. The first question usually is… “Is the Richmond Crew coming?” followed by “Are Andy, Doug, and Cliff all coming?” Why these questions some may wonder. Well, it is always exciting so see our family from Indiana, but there just seems to be a certain buzz and excitement when you know the Hazelbaker boys are all going to be there. I swear it is never a boring moment!! There is always some crazy story, a joke or prank. Of course it is always a bonus to hear stories about my dad growing up with you guys that he would never tell my sister or me! :) Although the Danville Crew does not get to see you all as much as I think we would all like, there is still that closeness as a family when we are together. I am so proud to call you family, Cliff. You are an awesome man and I am glad you are at home now with family (and dogs!) You are in my thoughts and prayers!

    Love You!
